Initiated by the Delhi Police to bring school dropouts back to the classroom, Nayi Disha is a collaborative effort between police, education boards, and NGOs to offer counseling, skill development, and second-chance learning opportunities for school dropouts.

The Delhi Police has thus started another very useful program called Nayi Disha to accommodate school dropouts back into the education system. The peculiar community outreach is geared toward children and youth forced to discontinue schooling due to financial constraints, family issues, or circumstances beyond their control.

Under the program, local police stations will identify and reach out to these children so they can enter either skill development programs or formal education.

The ultimate aim of this scheme, therefore, is to let them take up education and become ready for employment with proper training and guidance.

Police have special instructions to work closely with the Schools, Delhi’s Government Education Departments, and the Local NGO’s these days. Once children have been counseled, they may be channelized to local schools or open schools such as NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) or into vocational training. Those children who are not qualified for mainstream education shall be sent to the skill-enhancement courses.

Step Toward Creating Opportunities and Reducing Crime

According to Delhi Police, such a step will increase opportunities for vulnerable children and curb juvenile delinquency. "It's about progress and prevention," said a spokesperson. Children are less likely to engage in risky behavior or crime when they are busy learning or working.

Having started in a few locations, Nayi Disha will be expanded across the whole city over the next few months. Community members, school officials, and parents can recommend any dropouts they might be aware of.
