Delhi government schools will start providing summer assistance to students in Classes 10 and 12 between May 14 and May 31, focusing on career guidance, academic counseling, bullying, test anxiety, and mental health.
Student counseling isn't on summer break despite schools going out of session.
The Delhi government has officially initiated its summer guidance program within its schools to assist Class 10 and Class 12 students in controlling their emotional and academic pressures and making more informed career choices.
The Educational and Vocational Guidance Counselors (EVGCs) are conducting the program, which starts on May 14 and ends on May 31. The plan is to offer academic assistance, mental health assistance, and a relaxed setting wherein children can discuss anything ranging from drug abuse to bullying to test anxiety.
Mental Health Support
Students at a turning point in their education often take the stress home with them, even for holiday therapy sessions. Classes 10 and 12 are thereby targeted specifically with this advice, complemented by inputs on emotional issues such as bullying, education, career options, and job opportunities.
As per a letter by the Delhi Education Department, "The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to provide consistent academic and psychological guidance to students even when regular classes are not in session."
Report Format Guidelines and Counseling
Regular and guest counselors have been requested to keep detailed records for each session. This includes:
- Student ID and class
- What was the issue raised?
- Career and subject guidance is offered.
- If the package consisted of a session of parental counseling
- School principals are mandated to collect this information and pass it on to their District Counselor-in-Charge (CICs).
- The district-by-district reports compiled will then be forwarded to the EVGC Branch (EVGB).
Permanent counselors who work during the summer months will receive earned leave according to Central Civil Services rules, and the guest counselors will be paid according to norms.
