In the 2025-26 academic year, Delhi University made significant changes to the admission process for Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) programs.
On Saturday, the university issued an information bulletin informing BA applicants that they can now choose two domain subjects and two languages rather than the previous one language-three domain subject combination.
Previously, students could apply for a BCom (Hons) in Accountancy as an alternative to Mathematics in Combination II. This year, Delhi University withdrew this freedom as well.
However, admissions will be made using the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), and applications will be processed through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS).
Overview of Changes
- BA Course Changes: Previously, BA applicants were required to choose one language and three domain subjects. They can now choose two languages and two domain subjects. This shift enables students to explore additional disciplines and tailor their course selection to their interests and strengths.
- BCom (Hons) Changes: The option to study Accountancy instead of Mathematics in Combination II has been eliminated for BCom (Hons). Students must now take the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) with a specific academic combination that includes Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.
Admission Process
- Common University Entrance Test (CUET): Admissions for both the programs Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) [Hons] will be made through CUET. This entrance exam is designed to evaluate candidates on the basis of their understanding of specific subjects related to their selected courses.
- Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS): Candidates who have appeared and cleared the CUET entrance exam will be allocated seats through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) ensuring a seamless and transparent seat allocation process among all participating colleges.
- Language Requirement for Science Course Modified: Previously, students applying to Delhi University's Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) courses had to score at least 30% in language topics on their CUET exam. This prerequisite has been eliminated, making the admissions process more accessible to science students. The reform ensures that candidates are judged based on their topic expertise rather than language proficiency, lowering obstacles for students from diverse educational backgrounds.

New Subjects Included in DU BA Program
DU has added new criteria to various undergraduate BA courses, including history and psychology.
According to the amended requirements, students can now select two languages and two topics. The flexibility allows students to vary their course combinations while maintaining their interests and academic skills.
Changed Admission Process for BCom (Hons) Programme
Delhi University's increased emphasis on Mathematics indicates that the college is prioritizing analytical and quantitative skills in commerce education.
The BCom (Hons) degree strives to provide students with business, finance, and technology-related insights while emphasizing Mathematics as a core subject.
Delhi University (DU) made similar reforms to its science curricula. Science students seeking admission to courses such as Computer Science or Informatics Practices should now include Physics + Mathematics/Applied Mathematics, as well as a language from List A, in their CUET subject combinations.
Changed Eligibility Criteria for DU BCom (Hons)
Delhi University (DU) has changed the BCom (Hons) eligibility requirements. Students who study commerce without mathematics in Class 12 may also apply in the second subject combination category.
Since 2022, DU has offered two subject combination schemes for various undergraduate programs, following the move to CUET-UG for admissions.
Admissions to DU are open across 91 colleges
DU offers undergraduate students to 91 different institutions. According to the university's information bulletin, its academic and executive committees have already approved 540 programs.
Students must apply separately to the School of Open Learning (SOL) and the Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board (NCWEB).
Impact of Changes
These modifications reflect Delhi University's emphasis on analytical and mathematical abilities, notably in commerce education. By focusing on Mathematics for BCom (Hons), the institution hopes to equip students with solid basic knowledge in business and finance.
